This institution represents a significant philanthropic endeavor, established through the exclusive initiative and substantial financial patronage of Khatib Abdul Zahid Mukul. As a distinguished native son of Sreepur, and in his capacity as the Managing Director of Givensee Group of Industries Ltd., Mr. Mukul recognized the urgent need for local educational facilities. He founded the institution with the explicit mission of alleviating educational disparity and fostering high academic achievement in his ancestral community, an ambition that also extends to his role as Chairman of the Old Rehabilitation Centre in Gazipur.
The developmental trajectory of the institution began in 1983 with the founding of the Khatib Abdul Zahid Primary School (named after him), a foundational step that ultimately led to its subsequent nationalization by the government. This commitment to educational provision was significantly reinforced in 1992 by the establishment of the Khatib Abdul Zahid Junior Secondary School. The junior secondary section swiftly met required regulatory benchmarks, securing its Academic Recognition on September 14, 1997. This was followed by the crucial achievement of MPO (Monthly Pay Order) status on April 1, 1999, which stabilized the financing of teacher salaries and institutional operations.
The sustained demand for higher education necessitated further expansion. The institution received approval for the Ninth Grade on January 1, 1999, which achieved its own MPO inclusion on May 1, 2002. This incremental growth culminated in 2004, when the institution was officially designated by its current title, Khatib Abdul Zahid School and College, formally signifying its elevated status and expanded mandate.
The Higher Secondary curriculum was formally initiated with initial permission for Grades XI and XII granted on July 1, 2004. This stage of development was critical, confirming the institution’s ability to offer comprehensive education at the collegiate level. Academic Recognition for the higher secondary level was formally conferred on April 5, 2010, confirming adherence to advanced academic standards. The most significant recent institutional milestone was the comprehensive MPO inclusion of the entire School and College section on July 1, 2019. This final integration into the governmental support framework firmly cemented the institution’s sustainability and long-term capacity to serve the region.
At present, the institution proudly serves 500 students, with hundreds graduating annually to pursue higher education.
